Nostalgics like the "cool history" of this 1917 English country inn in Santa Maria, where the likes of Clark Gable and Rudolph Valentino once stayed; the "quiet" setting in the central coast wine country, "dark-wood interiors" with "fireplaces and sitting areas", "fantastic warm cookies" in the lobby and a "friendly" staff are pluses, but the "way-too-small" rooms, "antiquated" gym and "old-fashioned" amenities aren't for everyone.

This is an historic hotel with charm and class plus a beautiful garden.
Food in restaurant at breakfast wasn't very desirable.

This hotel has the charm of the early 1900's. The room is more basic then most 3 star but is because of the age and the hotels desire to maintain the early 1900 atmosphere. The hotel is in two parts. The historic part and the more modern part constructed in the late 1980's. My preference is the historic part and would stay again if I have the chance. ...read more

Nothing.
The room was small, musty and everything in the room was from the 80's.

The bathroom was clean.
The hotel smelled funny.

This is an old hotel, that is not kept up very well. The pool and hot tub were filthy. The halls have trays of old room service food out at all hours.

The front desk and the manager were so helpful beyond my expectation.

We reserved the room with a 2 full size bed. When we checked in and I tried to ask if we can upgrade it to two-queen beds and to my surprise it was granted with no cost. I also requested a microwave and it was brought in the room by a lady staff who was so courteous. I was impressed at the great customer service this hotel has to a first time customer like my family. ...read more

I liked that the old features were left intact at remodel.
The way the refrigerator was placed in the room was tacky.

Nice common rooms, tap room, outdoor patio dining room.
No complaints.

This hotel has everything. We were on limited time so we didn't get to use the beautiful pool but it looked great. The dining room is gracious and inviting. Staff is very friendly and competent

It was no to expensive.
Its old and makes lots of noise when your trying to sleep.

The rooms are old and not up dated my room was the last one on the hall and you had to walk all the way around the building (and im prego and i told the lady that)and was next to a stair well so every time the door slammed closed shook your bed and woke you up along with the noise of people walking. The rooms are old looking and the air wasn't on so it took 2hrs to cool down. ...read more
